In this blog post, we'll explore five kitchen upgrades that not only elevate your living space but also add substantial value to your property.

1. Modernize with Stylish Countertops

Outdated countertops can drag down the aesthetic of your kitchen. Consider upgrading to stylish materials like granite, quartz, or marble. Give your kitchen a brighter look with new white or light, neutral countertops, which have been trending for the past year or more. White quartz countertops are increasingly popular and look great with almost any cabinet or design style. Opt for White Quartz countertops for a  sleek timeless look that are a low maintenance choice perfect for a busy household. These not only offer a contemporary look but also enhance the functionality of your kitchen workspace. New countertops are a crucial investment that truly transforms the look of your kitchen and boosts its resale value.

2. Upgrade Your Appliances

Zline Stainless Appliances

Old and inefficient appliances, showing signs of wear and tear, stand as one of the primary motivations for homeowners to either renovate their kitchen or seek a new home altogether. Investing in high-quality, energy-efficient appliances not only makes your kitchen more functional but also adds a touch of luxury. Stainless steel appliances, smart technology, and energy-efficient models are popular choices that appeal to potential homebuyers. Exercise caution when choosing new appliances—there's a spectrum of price options for stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers. While incorporating modern features in your kitchen is essential, there's no need to splurge on top-of-the-line options.

3. Revamp Cabinetry for a Fresh Look

Old and worn-out cabinets can make your kitchen feel outdated. Consider replacing or refacing them for a fresh appearance. Updating kitchen cabinets are one of the preferred methods to increase the value of a kitchen. Whether it's refacing cabinets, or entirely replacing them, this approach guarantees a transformative impact on the overall appearance of the kitchen. You can also opt for new hardware to complement the style of your kitchen, giving it a modern and cohesive look.

4. Install Stylish Backsplashes

A visually appealing backsplash can transform the entire look of your kitchen. Tile backsplashes enhances the visual appeal of the kitchen. It adds a decorative element, creating a focal point that can attract potential buyers. Upgrading to a tile backsplash is often associated with modernizing the kitchen. This contemporary touch can make the space feel more current and in line with current design trends, which is appealing to homebuyers. Tile backsplashes are generally easy to clean and maintain. This practical aspect is also an upgrade buyers will appreciate in a kitchen that is not only visually appealing but also functional. Consider materials like subway tiles, mosaic or geometric patterns, or even sleek glass. This small investment can make a big impact on the overall design and value of your kitchen.

5. Add A Kitchen Island

Calacatta Laza Quartz Island

Adding a kitchen island is one of the best ways to increase the value of your kitchen when beginning renovations. Prospective buyers often prefer kitchen islands as they not only provide additional counter and storage space but also create a perception of an increased kitchen size. Kitchen islands are versatile and can serve multiple purposes. They can be used for dining, as a casual workspace, or even as a social hub during gatherings. This versatility adds to the overall appeal of the kitchen. A well-designed kitchen island can become a focal point in the kitchen, contributing to the overall aesthetics. It can be customized to match the style of the kitchen, creating a visually appealing centerpiece. Investing in a kitchen island is considered a good decision, given that it's a trend with lasting popularity unlikely to fade anytime soon.

By focusing on these five kitchen upgrades, you not only create a more enjoyable living space for yourself but also significantly increase the value of your home. Whether you're planning to sell in the future or simply want to enjoy a more modern and functional kitchen, these upgrades are sure to make a lasting impact.

Homeowners are increasingly drawn to the flexibility wood offers, allowing them to create personalized kitchen spaces that reflect their unique tastes and preferences. The newer style of wood kitchen cabinets is organic, modern, and beautiful. Darker wood varieties like walnut or cherry, when paired with minimalist hardware and clean lines, create a contemporary kitchen aesthetic. This blend of natural warmth and modern design elements adds depth and character to the space.

Rustic Charm in Farmhouse Kitchen Design

Traditional kitchens often embrace a cohesive color palette, where the wood cabinets serve as the focal point, complemented by neutral tones and classic finishes. This combination of wood and classic design elements transforms the kitchen into a space that creates an inviting room for both cooking and family gatherings.

Advantages of Natural Wood Cabinets

Here are some characteristics of natural wood cabinets that offer multiple advantages as kitchen cabinetry.

Durability: While trends may come and go, the durability and longevity of natural wood make it a practical investment. High-quality wood cabinets, when properly cared for, can withstand the test of time and continue to look beautiful for years. This emphasis on longevity appeals to homeowners who see their kitchens not just as a trendy space but as an enduring part of their homes.

Texture and Character: Natural wood brings a tactile quality to kitchen spaces that is hard to replicate with other materials. The visible grain patterns, knots, and unique characteristics of each wood type add depth and character to cabinets. Wood tone cabinets have the ability to evoke warmth, texture, and timelessness to make them the ultimate neutral color palette. While trendy colors come and go, the elegance of wood endures. By incorporating wood cabinets as the foundational neutral element, homeowners can infuse their kitchens with a serene and welcoming atmosphere. The subtle warmth of wood creates a backdrop that is both comforting and stylish.

Types of Natural Wood Cabinets

Semi-Custom Cabinets

Semi-custom wood cabinets offer a middle ground between fully custom and stock cabinets, providing several advantages that cater to the preferences and needs of homeowners.  One of the primary advantages of semi-custom wood cabinets is the ability to personalize the design. Semi-custom cabinets are typically crafted with attention to detail and high-quality materials. These cabinets offer flexibility in terms of design and configuration. RTA Cabinets

Ready-to-assemble (RTA) wood cabinets offer several advantages that make them a popular choice for homeowners and contractors alike. RTA cabinets are often more budget-friendly than fully assembled or custom cabinets. Despite being ready-to-assemble, many of these cabinets offer a variety of styles, finishes, and wood types. This allows homeowners to choose options that complement their specific design preferences and match the overall aesthetics of their homes. Many RTA cabinets are constructed from high-quality wood materials, ensuring durability and longevity. This makes them a cost-effective solution without compromising on the quality of materials used in the construction.

RTA cabinets come in a range of designs and configurations, making them suitable for various spaces and designs. This versatility allows homeowners to find options that meet their specific needs and preferences. Many RTA cabinets are constructed from high-quality wood materials, ensuring durability and longevity. Here are some examples of RTA wood cabinet choices:

Choosing The Right Countertops And Cabinets

Filed Under: Cabinets  By: East Coast Granite of Charlotte on October 26, 2023

When it comes to designing the perfect kitchen, few elements are as important as kitchen countertops and cabinets. Both of these components when chosen carefully can create a beautiful and cohesive look. Choosing the right kitchen countertops and cabinets can be a daunting task. There are many different materials, styles, and colors to choose from. This blog post will provide you with helpful tips and advice on how to create a coordinated look for your kitchen countertops and cabinets.

Designing a kitchen is no small task. When countertops and cabinets complement each other, they create a harmonious and balanced visual appeal. Whether you opt for sleek quartz countertops or luxurious granite countertops, choosing materials that complement the color and style of your cabinets can make a world of difference.

Choosing the right colors for your kitchen countertops and cabinets is very important. The colors you choose can have a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your kitchen, so it's important to choose wisely. Here are some tips on how to choose the right colors for your kitchen.

Consider the overall color scheme of your kitchen. Are you going for a monochromatic look with shades of white and gray? Or do you prefer a more vibrant and colorful kitchen? Take a look at your existing decor and choose colors that will complement and enhance the overall aesthetic.

Next, think about the size and layout of your kitchen. If you have a small kitchen, light and neutral colors can help create a sense of space and openness. If you have a large kitchen, you can experiment with bolder and darker colors to create a dramatic effect.

Think about the natural light in your kitchen as well. If you have a lot of natural light, you can get away with darker colors as they won't make the space feel too dark. However, if your kitchen is lacking in natural light, it's best to stick with lighter colors to help brighten up the space.

Select your cabinets first. A lot more goes into selecting cabinets than just color choice. You have to choose the style and finish, the type of material, and handles or pulls. An emerging kitchen cabinet trend is two-toned cabinets; the bottom cabinets are rich and dark, and the top wall cabinets are lighter. Or choosing your island island cabinets to be a darker or different color. Two-toned cabinets are an excellent option for someone who is a little adventurous and wants a more creative and open kitchen feel and design.

There are various things to consider when choosing a countertop to match your cabinets. First, we recommended avoiding matching dark cabinets with dark countertops. If you are contemplating this option, make sure your floor, backsplash and appliances are all light-colored to add some brightness to your kitchen. Otherwise, it may feel too dull. Dark cabinets usually look best with lighter countertops. The contrast will make the countertops and cabinets both pop.

If you have chosen lighter cabinets, you have a more of an extensive variety of countertop colors and textures to choose from. If you are looking for a fresh and clean feel, choose a lighter countertop option to match the lightness of your cabinets. Just make sure not to choose too light of a color, as it may make your kitchen feel too bright.  Although, lighter cabinets and countertops give the option to incorporate darker floors and accents.

Choosing light cabinets also can give you the ability to select a busier, more colorful countertop color and texture. A current trend is selecting different countertop colors. One for the surrounding kitchen counters and a bolder stone for the island countertop. This style would really make a statement.

Lastly, don't forget to consider the color of your flooring, appliances, and other elements in your kitchen. You want your countertops and cabinets to complement these elements rather than clash with them.

By considering these factors and choosing colors that work well together, you can create a kitchen that is visually appealing and harmonious. Remember to trust your instincts and choose colors that make you feel happy and inspired. You can also schedule a free consultation with one of our design specialists who can help guide you through this process.

A well-designed kitchen can make all the difference in creating a space that is not only functional but also beautiful. Kitchen design styles have evolved over time, from traditional to modern and everything in between. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to choose the perfect design style for your kitchen. In this blog, we will explore various kitchen design styles, their unique characteristics, and how to incorporate them into your home. Whether you're a fan of sleek and modern designs or prefer the warmth and charm of traditional kitchens, we've got you covered.

alaska-white-new TRADITIONAL.jpeg

Traditional kitchens are known for sophistication and classic design. Cabinets are usually painted or stained. Natural stone countertops, distinctive hardware, formal light fixtures, and elegant molding and trimwork are elements of this design style. An accenting tile backsplash in a neutral tone is also usually present.

Traditional Style Granite Choices

Traditionally designed kitchens usually feature a neutral countertop choice. Granite is typically a good selection for this design style. River White, Moonlight, and Snowfall Granite are all nice neutral granite countertop choices for this design style.

Modern Farmhouse

Farmhouse Style

Modern farmhouse style is known for its warmth and simplicity. This design style features natural textures such as wood tones and galvanized steel. Beautiful quartz countertops are showcased in this design. Creams and whites are the most popular color palettes for this style. However, pops of color go a long way to show off your individual style. Farmhouse style also emphasizes well-used and loved items.

Modern Farmhouse Quartz Choices

The Modern Farmhouse kitchen looks best with countertops that have a clean smooth look or a subtle pattern. Quartz is a perfect option for this design style. There are many quartz options that have the timeless look of marble but are highly durable and low maintenance. Some great choices for kitchen countertops are Calacatta Laza, Carrera White, and Marquina Midnight. Marquina Midnight is a beautiful black quartz if you are looking for a darker countertop.

Contemporary kitchens are warm and stylish. This design features clean lines and full overlay cabinets in natural wood stain. Full overlay cabinets are where no frame from the cabinet shows. This reinforces the clean lines of the design. Contemporary design focuses on horizontal lines and geometric forms which you can see in this waterfall island and the spherical lighting fixtures. Sleek, simple hardware complements the clean lines of the contemporary style.

Contemporary Granite Choices

Granite countertops remain the favorite in Contemporary design. Natural materials are often the focus in this design style. Granite is available in a wide variety of colors and variations. You can go bold and bright, minimal, or neutral. There are many beautiful granite option choices available.  Some favorites for this design style are Viscon White, Blue Bahia, and White Orion granite countertops.

Transitional design is the most popular kitchen style. If your style is somewhere between Traditional and Contemporary, then Transitional is where you fit. A Transitional kitchen features elements from both styles. Usually this means sleeker cabinets and hardware, minimal accents, a neutral color palette, and natural surfaces. Both granite and quartz are wonderful selections.

Transitional Quartz Choices

Quartz, granite, and marble are all seen in transitional kitchen designs, although quartz seems to be the most popular. Kitchen islands are a key element in the transitional design style. A waterfall island is also a nice added design flair.

Guide to Kitchen Cabinet Types and Styles

Filed Under: Cabinets  By: East Coast Granite of Charlotte on October 17, 2023

When you type “types of cabinet” into Google, you’ll get an array of words such as “styles,” “grades,” and “types” used to describe the same thing in some places and different in others. It can be exciting to choose cabinets for your kitchen, but with so many concepts and options where do you begin? While it is great to have choices, it can be overwhelming without an understanding of all the options available and how to use them to make the kitchen of your dreams. This guide will help you understand these terms better. But remember, we do free design consultations to help you get the most out of your kitchen space!

Cabinet Quality Grades

There are three different grades of cabinets: stock, semi-custom, and custom. You should decide on your budget for your cabinets upfront before you peruse the choices available.

Stock cabinets are a basic, economic option that are pre-sized by their manufacturer. They are mass-produced and available in fixed sizes. However, our phenomenal install team can sometimes make modifications for that custom look. These cabinets are constructed on-site. They are primarily constructed of plywood sides and backs with wood doors.  Stock cabinets offer an economic style with a beautiful design.

Semi Custom

These cabinets mark the mid-range option in price point. They have a broader selection in both style and material and allow for some size adjustment. Semi-custom cabinets usually offer a range of styles, materials, finishes, and accessories. They are one of a kind with tailored sizes. While the design possibilities are infinite, these cabinets are harder on the budget. However, you will also get exactly what you want.

On the high end, custom cabinets are completely made to order and offer the widest range of styles, materials, finishes, and accessories. They are one of a kind with tailored sizes. While design options are limitless, these are definitely high-end cabinets.

Basic Types of Cabinets

When choosing cabinets, you’ll need to consider all the types you will need for your kitchen remodel. There are four different types of cabinets: Base, Wall, Tall, and Specialty Units.

Base Cabinet

Base cabinets are the heavy lifters of cabinetry. They provide most of the storage space and sit on the ground beneath countertops. These cabinets create new possibilities throughout the kitchen. Standard base cabinets are usually 24 inches deep and 36 inches tall. They are used as kitchen storage and islands, window seating, and bathroom vanities.

Wall Cabinet

Wall cabinets or the “upper” cabinets provide much-needed storage space above the countertops. Upper cabinetry is typically 12 inches deep. They are the most important for the remodeling process as they are the most visible and carry the looks. These cabinets have many uses beyond food storage. They can serve as entertainment centers, laundry room storage, and dish storage.

Tall Cabinet

Tall cabinets or pantry cabinets top many other cabinets in terms of height and storage. They start from the floor and extend to the ceiling and are available in sizes up to 96 inches in height. These cabinets are used for pantry and utility storage. They can give the kitchen a dramatically vertical look.

Specialty Cabinet

Specialty units are the most important for the kitchen’s functionality and design. They add square footage and organization. Specialty cabinets include corner cabinets, sink and cooktop fronts, bottle racks, and microwave base. These cabinets add function and style.

Cabinet Styles

There are six different types of cabinet styles that we offer: Shaker, Specialty Shaker, Maui, Raised Panel, and Glass Panel. The style of your cabinets can make a space look contemporary and chic or more traditional. Your cabinet style should always tie the look of your kitchen together.

Shaker is the most popular style of kitchen cabinets. They have a recessed center panel with clean lines and are used in modern and traditional styles. The framing of the recessed panel with sleek lines of the full overlay door is a unique, chic design. The shaker line is available in the colors white, antique white, gray, and espresso.

Specialty Shaker

Specialty Shaker is a variation on the traditional shaker cabinet door. The specialty shaker tends to have extra detailing on the door either through double edging or extra molding. These cabinets are offered in white, french vanilla, richmond stone, and richmond white.

Our Maui cabinets are also a different take on the basic shaker door. The Maui has a larger center panel and extra detailing around the door and the drawer. The Maui is available in espresso, pebble gray, or white.

Raised Panel

The Raised Panel cabinet provides an additional dimension to the door design. The panel which is in the center of the frame is actually raised creating more depth and character. These types of cabinets also have increased amounts of molding and details that tend to look best in transitional or traditional kitchens. We offer these cabinets in Casselberry Saddle, Casselberry White, Torrance White,  Classic White and Dark Chocolate.

Glass Panel

Glass Panel cabinets can be used in most kitchen cabinet installations. A glass panel is an open framed door with a glass insert. You can include a few to show off beloved glass collectibles, or to lighten up your kitchen. Glass panel doors reflect light and can be useful in dark kitchens as well as smaller ones to create an open feel.

The kitchen is the center of your home, where families gather for meals and celebrations and memories are made. The kitchen is the focal point of your home and updating this space can make the most impact. You can add your personal style with a beautiful kitchen renovation while also adding value to your home. Adding new hardware is a great way to dress up your cabinets and create the finishing touch.

Door Styles - These are some of the most popular door styles. You may see variations on each of these styles.

Recessed Panel

These cabinets get their name because their center panel rests inside a center frame.  These cabinets are typically called Shaker cabinets and are probably the most popular with homeowners. The pared back design works well in modern and traditional design styles.  Recessed panel cabinets are an affordable option in a kitchen remodel.

Raised Panel

On this cabinet door, the center panel is raised instead of recessed. These type of cabinets are more frequently seen in a traditional kitchen. Raised Panel cabinets have a varying degree of detail depending on which one you choose. Raised Panel cabinets tend to cost more than recessed because of the increased amount of detail.

Slab/ Flat Panel

Slab Panel cabinet doors are a very modern choice. Their door panel is completely flat with a very simplistic design with no trim. Because of their design it makes them very affordable and easy to clean.

Open cabinet paneling exposes the interior cabinet shelving. Adding mullion glass doors is also an option. However, these can be used completely open. The open cabinet is a great choice if you have dishes, or glasses you would like to display. Pricing depends on choice of glass doors chosen.
